DescriptionHaving grown up enjoying the work of Paul Pelletier, I gravitated to the art in his issues of Dan Slott's She-Hulk more than that of Juan Bobillo.Which is not to say I didn't enjoy Bobillo's work. It was cartoony and expressive with a strong sense of storytelling, and I wish I'd snagged a couple pages when they were readily available at Splash Page Art back in the day. Unfortunately, I let that opportunity go by. And as the years passed, regular rereads of those first twelve issues made me more and more regretful. So, I kept my eye out, figuring a page had to make it's way to market sooner or later. It was a long wait. For some reason, these pages have disappeared into collections never to be seen again. There's only a handful here on CAF, and none had popped up since 2009 until Mike Kirton recently posted one. It was a great example, so I left a comment that mentioned I'd long been looking for one and congratulating him on finding one of these rare gems. As it happened, Mike found it in a random portfolio Mark Hay had brought to a convention. Somehow, Mike informed me, it had slipped through the cracks and sat in the back of a portfolio, never making it to market. And the best part was there was a second page! I'd have happily grabbed any Bobillo page from the run, but was beyond excited when Mike sent me a photo he'd snapped of the other one. In addition to being a fun space battle featuring the Avengers vs. Modok, this one sets up a gag at the end where Blizzard and Jen end up drinking together in a bar. That scene was one of my favorite moments of the whole run, so it's great to get the setup to that punchline. Sincere thanks to Mike for pointing me to this one. Social/Sharing |

I always loved Bobillo's art. So distinctive and fresh.
