Description

Thrilled to own two consecutive pages from this hilarious story! Love the writing by Gerry Duggan/ Brian Posehn along with the art by Mike Hawthorne on this issue! This is a very early Superior Spider-man appearance which was released at the same time as Superior Spider-man #5. It's also a fairly early Deadpool / Spider-man team up issue. Though Deadpool's first appearance was in 1991. Spider-man and Deadpool didn't appear in a comic together until 1997. Before Deadpool 10 (Vol 3) most of their appearances together were in comics like Deadpool Destroys/ Kills The Marvel Universe (+ Again), What If...?, Deadpool & Cable, Ultimate Spider-man. In 2010 they finally started crossing paths in the main Deadpool and Amazing Spider-man titles on Earth 616. In 2016 the duo finally scored their own title together. Check out the cover to issue #31 by Dave Johnson that I own.

For this single issue the Deadpool cover header is changed to Inferior Deadpool which was a play on his guest stars Superior Spider-man name. This comic sees Spider-man (Doc Ock) reluctantly teaming up with Deadpool after saving him from what Deadpool described as the Dull-tastic Four (Lady Stilt-man, Taskmaster, Trapster and Chance). During the battle Deadpool shoots the hose connected to The Trapster's backpack which explodes a sticky gooey substance all over the roof top of the building. Deadpool rides on Spider-man's shoulders to avoid the sticky goo. Then steals Spidey's web-shooter and takes off after Lady Stilt-man and their leader Gump (a satire of Donald Trump).

Drawn on two 11" x 17" art boards. One has the prelim pencils and the other the final inks all by artist Mike Hawthorne. Both pages are also signed. I've only included an image of the final inked published page. Easily one of my favorite panel pages in my collection!

Deadpool is such a wildcard that his character plays great against the Superior Spidey and other no nonsense types. Pulling back for the wide shot to humorously show who Spidey is stuck with is a humilating moment for Ock's big ego.
