It�s been amazing seeing the wealth of unpublished prelims and sketches from Virgil Finlay come out in the last year or so. First, because it�s allowed those of us with a more limited budget to acquire work from a true master of illustration and also the work itself is often amazing. Many of the works the estate have made available are incredibly well done in their own right and unmistakably Finlay. Others are interesting windows into his process and his evolving interests and styles over his lifetime outside of the sci-if and fantasy work that so many of us love.

I was lucky enough to acquire some examples from his adolescence which are an honor to have in my collection, and amazing to see that they survived to today. I thought others might be interested to see these sketches from December 1928 when Finlay would have been only 14 years old. Very grateful that Virgil�s granddaughter Brien has made these works available and for Doug Ellis facilitating her sales.
