I've been a big fan of Strangehaven since discovering it in the back pages of Cerebus #198, way back in 1995. Like many self-published titles, it didn't come out consistently but when it did it was worth the wait.

The story seemed destined to go unfinished after the last individual issue, #18, was published in 2005. Fast forward nine years and Strangehaven started appearing again, this time in an anthology magazine called Meanwhile... Ten episodes were published in eleven issues (issue ten being the exception) and then Meanwhile... went on hiatus. Gary Spencer Millidge can't be more than 100 pages from the end. He refuses to give up and I hope he finds the accolades he deserves at the finish line.

None of this would be meaningful if Strangehaven wasn't good, but it's very good indeed. Someone cared enough about it to release a two hour video about the comic on YouTube in 2022.

Spurred by the video, I went searching for Strangehaven original art. The art gods were smiling on me as this cover was being auctioned off at Heritage the very next week.

I would recommend picking up the trades from Gary's website but after the video was released they quickly sold out. Hopefully he will find a way to get them back in print soon.

And hopefully, some day, there will be an ending to Strangehaven.

I also had that feeling when I was buying the individual issues, will it go the distance... I knew it should, but quality and popularity don't always go hand in hand. Bought a couple of issues of Meanwhile, just for Strangehaven, but actively disliked some of the other strips and let it go. I'd love to see it completed and will buy the collections. Beautiful cover by the way! I must find one for myself..
