Description

GIOVE TOPPI (1888-1942), Original cover for the second issue of the legendary monthly magazine "Giungla!", Published by Nerbini in 1937. Tempera on thin cardboard.
G.Toppi was a historic Italian illustrator and one of the founding fathers of Italian comics, in the golden age he created numerous covers of F.Gordon, Mandrake and Phantom for the publisher Nerbini.

GIOVE TOPPI è sicuramente da considerare uno dei padri fondatori del fumetto italiano, grande copertinista e illustratore, ideatore del famoso Topo-Lino Nerbini anteguerra.
Questo pezzo originale di copertina fu realizzato da Toppi per il secondo numero della leggendaria rivista mensile "Giungla! - Gli occhi di vetro", edita da Nerbini nel 1937. Usciranno solo 6 numeri di questa testata a supplemento de L’Avventuroso giornale, solo i primi tre numeri includono storie a fumetti. Chiusa a dicembre del 1937 Giungla la ritroviamo il mese successivo, gennaio 1938, come nuova testata del giornale di Cino e Franco (dal n.127).
G.Toppi impara proprio sull’Avventuroso il linguaggio grafico delle più famose serie americane, dandone una propria interpretazione e divenendo uno degli autori più interessanti del periodo. Fu anche l'autore della maggior parte delle copertine degli albi anteguerra dedicati ai personaggi dei fumetti americani come Mandrake, L'Uomo Mascherato, Gordon e altri.
Questa copertina è tutta dipinta, compreso le varie indicazioni dei titoli.

Un grande illustratore e il primo storico disegnatore di Topolino in Italia (ho letto che ne ha creato anche il famoso logo). Un autore che non poteva mancare nella tua collezione!

C'era anche la cover del n.1, ma ho deciso per questa proprio perchè più bella e lavorata! Se potevo avrei preso entrambe!
