DescriptionThis week we have lost the great Carlos Pacheco, a Spanish super star whose influence and artistry won't be forgotten easily. This seemed like a good moment to post the only piece of art I own that bears his signature: a page from his work on "Captain America" about ten years ago. This is page 9 from "Captain America" #22 from July 2014. The story (featuring an older Steve Rogers) is written by Rick Remender, with pencil art by Carlos Pacheco on most issues of the second half of this volume, & blue line inks by Mariano Taibo. About the page itself - I love that it features pure pencil art from Pacheco & show some great cinematic storytelling in just four panels. We start off with an angry "Old Man Steve" Rogers - with the point of view slightly tilted to match Nick's eyeline looking at a seated Steve. Then we go into a medium shot with Nicky Fury, Steve Rogers & Mariah Hill, where the highly detailed room steals the moment. This is followed up by great stoic reaction shot of Nick Fury, while we then finish off by deepening that same close-up with an even closer look at Nick. It's a quieter page, for sure, for a Marvel comic book, but that's what I like so much about this one. Rest in peace, Carlos, and thank you for your work & passion. Social/Sharing |

Those pictures on Steve's wall of the military theme add a real nice thematic touch to this soldier. It's great how Pacheco drew this page to show Steve emotional and contrast it by emphasizing Fury in thought.

And having those as the first & last panel of the page works extremely well to drive that contrast to the fullest.
