DescriptionDetective Comics (Vol. 2) #18 (May 2013) original cover art for "Room to Roost". This issue starts the multi-title crossover Batman: Requiem, which dealt with the aftermath of of the death of Robin (his son, Damian Wayne) in Batman Incorporated (Vol. 2) #8. And before I go any further, seriously, how many times can Robin actually die?Jason Fabok had only just recently begun doing Bat covers, with his first published cover being Detective 13 (which I also own). This cover showcases Batman, holding the tattered remains of Robin's cape, as rain falls and lightning strikes above. Similar images have been done many ways over the years, but this one really showcases Fabok's approach to the Dark Knight. I have always loved the attention to detail in areas that isn't always seen with Batman, such as his muscled physique, his definitive chin or brow, or the precision in the cowl (especially ears) that is very much Fabok's version. The piece is spectacular in person, and Jay clearly ignores most standard conventions of not going edge to edge, with pretty much full bleed throughout. Even more impressive is that this is 100% graphite, as the inks were all done digitally. Jason isn't doing as much Batman these days, which is a shame considering how good his is. This is such a great image of Batman, and I feel privileged to have this piece in my collection. The art was hand drawn in graphite on 11"X17" art board. Signed in Robin's cape (bottom middle) by Jason. Social/Sharing |

I love closeups, as they convey so much more emotion. Batman in a driving rain is also a classic trope I never get tired of. Beautiful piece!

Tha darkened face with the shadows is what makes the cover work as the rain sizzles around this brooding statue watching over the city.
