DescriptionBatman: Arkham Knight #0 (2015) original cover art for "Before the Storm". Rocksteady had a great run of creating not only the best Batman video games ever made, but arguably some of the best comic-based games ever made. Arkham Knight was the third entry in this series and introduced a new foe for the Dark Knight to face off against, the mysterious Arkham Knight. DC had a small series of comics for each of the games when they were released, and Arkham Knight was no exception. As part of the Arkham Knight video game release, Limited Edition versions were released for both XBox One and PS4 that included a bunch of fun goodies, including an issue "0" for the upcoming Arkham Knight series that was only available as part of the bundle. In 2019, Arkham Knight was introduced to the main Batman continuity in Detective Comics #1000. However, this issue was the official first appearance of Arkham Knight in a published comic book, and this cover is his first cover appearance. The art itself was done by Jason Fabok, who had already made a name for himself in the New 52 run of Detective Comics. This cover features a large Batman in his Arkham Knight costume backing the villainous Arkham Knight as the main image, looming over the rest of the scene. Below is a very commonly seen image from this game, with Batman swooping over the extra armored Batmobile from the game with plenty of explosions and carnage happening in its wake. I love this image given how it so properly captures the essence of the game. The Arkham series of costumes have always ranked near the top for me for Batman, and Fabok nails it. The design for Arkham Knight is super cool, equally capturing mercenary, mystery, and futuristic. The Arkham Knight Batmobile is one of the coolest models ever created in my opinion, and I like it so much I even have the 1:10 scale beauty released by Prime 1 Studios. Fabok holds true to the original designs from the game while incorporating his own style, and this cover is a great start for the Arkham Knight mythos. Unlike his New 52 run, Jason digitally laid out the pencils for this piece, and then hand inked over blue lines on an 11"X17" art board. Signed and dated by Jason in the middle left above Batman's cape. Social/Sharing |

Fantastic to take the video game look to the composition of this cover with all the explosions on ground level.
