Description

My son introduced me to this stylish space western anime. 'Cowboy Bebop' took its time putting the team together over the first several episodes. The cast comprises a variation on the common 'five man band' of dashing leader, burly guy, moody hearthrob, girl, and pet/kid. Bebop includes both pet and kid, dispensing with the dashing leader entirely. Faye Valentine was written as sensible, resourceful, and driven rather than the usual giggly girl archetype.

Episode 15, 'My Funny Valentine,' tells Faye's backstory. She had spent the series up until now trying to amass mountains of cash. Here we learn that at age 20, she was in a terrible accident and was placed in suspended animation until medical science caught up to her problems. Thawed and healed 54 years later, she now owes an insurmountable debt.

Most of this episode is told in flashback by Faye to Ein the Corgi. In this cel from the 11:18 mark, Faye interrupts her narrative in surprise when her teammate Spike Spiegel exits the nearby bathroom, having heard the whole thing.

Very nice expression and may be a key cel of the sequence that the animators wanted out of the story.
