Description

The very first E.T. (1982) work created for Spielberg for his studio movie pitch. Large 22x30 inch acrylic and prisma pencil on board.

Early in Steven Spielberg's career (early 1980), he was known as "the guy that did JAWS' and still needed to pitch his ideas to the studios as it wasn't yet a slam dunk that he would get funding. After Columbia Pictures rejected the pitch, Spielberg hired Drew Struzan to do this piece so he could take it into the next studio pitch meeting (Universal) to get a green light on E.T.

I especially love the color choices and the projected color wheel on young Elliot's face.

Now in my personal collection.

Hypnotizing! Pitching a new kind of Close Encounters in this piece! It's vague enough to keep the mystery and wonder intact.
