DescriptionWent after this page in Heritage and was concerned on the price but pages have been creeping up quite a bit, but though Ric Estrada has credit as designer, this is almost all Wally Wood. Felt fortunate to get it, especially after seeing what the Mike Grell All-Star Comics #58 Cover went for!"Really? Wildcat-- I-- Am-- Not-- A-- Broad!" — Power Girl Synopsis for "Brainwave Blows Up!" As Brain Wave finds his old teammate Per Degaton and builds him a new body, the Justice Society and Super Squad attempt to deal with his worldwide disaster campaign. This splash features destruction for the Justice Society of America when "Brainwave Blows Up!" This story introduced the "new look" for Brainwave, which turned out to be a mental projection. The look would inspire the costume for Brainwave Jr. in Infinity, Inc. in 1984. Also on the page are Doctor Fate, Wildcat, Doctor Mid-Nite, the Flash, Hawkman, and Green Lantern. None of the Super Squad were pictured on this page, as the featured JSA members were only more mental projection sparring partners for the bug-eyed Brainwave Sr.! Social/Sharing |

The excitement of the Justice Society getting their own title again after having to wait a year between their appearances in the annual JLA/JSA team-ups cannot be understood unless you lived it.... and what a pulse-pounding way to begin their second issue! These early All-Star issues were also the introduction to the stellar talents of Wally Wood for new bronze age comic fans ... a true artistic master who could do it all. What a joy it was a few years later to learn more about comic history and consume his amazing EC work. Congrats on winning this outstanding piece of our collective childhood!

The credits acknowledge Wood's huge role in this art by the use of the term "artist" whereas Estrada is identified as "designer." Congratulations on adding this Wally Wood (!) piece to your collection!

This is like the DC version of the Danger Room but with bigger eyeballs. How can X-Men compete with that? Giant eyeballs for the win all day, baby.

One of the first series I remember picking up these issues off the spinner rack at the local drugstore. These Wally Wood and Staton/Layton pages are very special to me. The Wood art is excellent during his short run. Congrats on getting this page.

always love the brainwave as a villain. if you never watched stargirl on the cw ,do so! they did a fantasic job keeping the look and feel of the Jsa and Isa america. it lasted three seasons. but I always rewatch it. it's available on HBO max and tubi streaming.
