DescriptionI was never a big Fantastic Four reader but when I did read any issues it was mainly because of the draw of John Byrne's Art.I wasn't familiar with this period where he was inked by Al Gordon and I think the end result (although not as extreme as say under Klaus Janson) deviates his style a bit from what I expect from Byrne inking himself or inked by Terry Austin... but I quite like it! Even though I know some of the style applied here is linked to the context of the story, there is still something I find really effective in how they made the backgrounds lighter and had a heavier counter line on the characters. I've been looking for a good Byrne She-Hulk page, and there was one from this storyline I tried to get but it went for 3x the price of this page. As far as consolation prizes go, a nice page featuring Reed, Sue, Johnny and Jen's then boyfriend Wyatt isn't so bad. Acquired via Heritage auction. Social/Sharing |

Hey Christian! I LOVED the end of the Byrne run on Fantastic Four, because I found his own inking to be too muddy/dirty looking, while Gordon provided a much cleaner line. My favourite issue though, were the ones inked by Jerry Ordway. But this is a nice example and yes, the extremely light backgrounds were done that way for special effects.

I too liked Gordon's inking on Byrne's FF issues even though his inks were tighter on his Superman ones.

I like how the panels are still big and still bold. That long line going from Sue's head down her neck and back is a great highlight of Gordon's skill. So is the first panel of Reed's head that anchors the page.
