Description

Back in January 2022, I spotted Briane Andan opening up his commission list on Facebook. I loved his dynamic & manga-esque style, so I knew I wanted something. It just took some time to decide what. Good thing is that my slot was for August, so I had quite a bit of time.

We chatted and discovered that we both loved Hayao Miyazaki's works & especially Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I'm happy that I went with this, as he did her justice. This could come right out of a storyboard or a page of the manga. You can feel the speed, urgency & heroism of the great princess of the Valley.

On his process, Briane shared the following with me: "It's a very basic process, to be honest. I do small sketches until I find what I like, then scan it and print it in a larger paper size which I will lightbox and ink before I add the screen tones.".

As mentioned, this was done with pencils, inks & screentones. He was kind enough to add the oversized prelims of the piece, too. Size is a bit wider than 9x12.

That's an amazing layer of zip! The specialty screentone for Nausicaä scans out so cool looking.
