Whilce Portacio, one of the founders of Image Comics, drew this stunning splash image of the Dark Knight for Batman Confidential #6 (2007). Portacio has not had many opportunities to illustrate Batman over the years, making this a nice opportunity for fans of both the artist and one of the worlds most popular heroes.

For almost eight decades, Batman has been one of the most popular heroes in comic books. Batman continues to be the superhero king of all media. His comic books are consistently the best-sellers in the industry week after week. His recent movie appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League, portrayed by Ben Affleck, have been a highlight of the DC film universe. The TV series Gotham, now in its fourth season, tells the story for the first time of the years between Bruce Wayne's parents getting shot and his becoming Batman. Animated versions of Batman, including the highly successful Batman Lego Movie, are released regularly.

Whilce Portacio is best known for his Marvel work on Uncanny X-Men in the early 90s. He was one of the Marvel artists responsible for guiding the X-Men during one of the most popular and prolific eras for the franchise in the early 1990s, co-creating the character Bishop with Jim Lee and John Byrne. In 1992, Portacio and six other artists left Marvel to start Image Comics, changing the game in mainstream comic book publishing and ranking him among the most influential creators of the 1990s.
