DescriptionOK, this is not a WWII plane but it snuck its way in with its superior speed!Small price to pay to share this Heath example. The "BLAM" panel is what pushed me over the edge to acquire this page - so I added a close-up of that one as an additional image. Add: I should clarify that I don't believe Roy L. used this page for his BLAM (added as additional image) as that painting is a clear swipe from All American Men of War 89 - but as folks comment below, it was a missed opportunity for him to swipe this panel from Our Fighting Forces 43 published in 1958 but that is 4 years before most of the war swipes from books published in 1962 Social/Sharing |

Beautiful war page! Has a very nostalgic feel to it.
When I was a kid, I used to play an aircraft shooting game where you had to shoot down MiGs. I recently looked up where the word came from and it's interesting:
MiG, any member of a family of Soviet military fighter aircraft produced by a design bureau founded in 1939 by Artem Mikoyan (M) and Mikhail Gurevich (G). (The i in MiG is the Russian word meaning “and.”)
And now I know why the i is lower case.

If I was Roy Lichtenstein, I would have stolen that Blam and made myself famous in the world of pop art! Heath is just that powerful when he shows these dogfights. The camera angles, the jet trails, and the human drama all on one page!

Great page Mark! Roy Lichtenstein has a painting "Blam" (1962) with a fighter plane of similar design being hit in a BLAM!....Google it!

If Lichtenstein didn't copy that bottom left panel, it could only be because he missed that issue of OFF. This page has all the things that made Russ Heath "the man" for aerial dog fights.

For all of his rip-offs, Lichtenstein should have at least bought Heath a drink. BLAM!

Fabulous page Mark! Heath drew fighter aircraft combat so well, whether Korean War Sabre and MIG jets like this one or World War II Mustangs and German fighters. This historic page is in excellent hands and care! Congratulations!
