DescriptionWith the Thunderbolts movie just a few weeks away this felt like a great time to share some Thunderbolts art. I thoroughly enjoyed the Dark Reign arc coming off of the big Secret Invasion event and loved discovering Rob De La Torre's artwork on the series. It was writer Andy Diggle and artist De La Torre that brought Yelena Belova, Black Widow II into the Thunderbolts in Thunderbolts issue 128 in 2009! This is part of a sequence where Norman Osborn (head of the dismantled Thunderbolts) recruits Belova and Ghost into the Thunderbolts. The film definitely doesn't follow the story but cool to see the MCU pull from this arc. Just saw tickets have gone on sale for the film! Looks fun! Social/Sharing |

I see bits of Jerry Bingham in the scratchier lines and Butch Guice in how he leaves the panel bordersunrules, as well as in the way he blocks in the shadowed partsof the figures. Interesting, because he seems to have really loved imitating other artists' approaches throughout his entire career. He's now doing an amazing imitation of John Buscema on Conan. Really beautiful stuff.

I'm not super familiar with Jerry Bingham but looking at his art I can totally see the influence. I can also see the Guice reference as welll. I love that De La Torre pulls from the classic Marvel look and feel and how his work has evolved into the heavier Buscema influence with his own spin.

Really great find as most didn't realize De La Torre was going to be a breakout artist then. This shows off what he could do with a modern setting by bringing that same grity and visceral action he does on Conan.

Thanks, Marcus! I'm a fan of his work then and now and it's been great to see his work on Conan.
