DescriptionHere is a historic interior page from Annihilation: Conquest – Starlord Issue #1, released July 25, 2007. This page marks the first meeting between Star-Lord and Groot. This page also features Groot’s first appearance in Earth-616 continuity. The scene takes place in a Kree prison, where Groot is introduced to Star-Lord as part of a team of expendable prisoners. Star-Lord has been tasked with assembling this team to fight the Phalanx, who recently conquered the Kree home world of Hala in a matter of hours. That catastrophe was partly due to Star-Lord’s failed oversight in fortifying the planetary network. Groot is presented as a flora-organism and is referred to as the Monarch of Planet X. Star-Lord dismissively calls him a walking tree. This moment marks the beginning of a long and intertwined history between the two characters, one that would shape the future of Marvel’s cosmic storytelling. Comic Art Board 11x17. Social/Sharing |

Sitting in the chains, with his head hung low
Couldn't get in thicket, it was Annihilation
Heard the roar of the crowd, he could picture the scene
Put his ear to the wall, then Timothy Green
In one piece of art, just blew Ian away
He saw stars in his eyes, for his very next page
Bought a beat up tree thing, in a comic art store
Didn't know how to pay it, but he knew for sure
That one Groot art, felt good in his hands
Didn't take long, Guardians fan
One Monarch, sits way down low
Was a one way ticket, only one way Starlord
So he started buyin', art never gonna stop
Gotta keep on Grootin', some page gonna Rocket to the top
And be a Groot walks hero, got stars in his eyes
Inks by Olazabo
One monarch (Groot talks hero, stars in his eyes)
Groot walks hero, (stars in his eyes) he'll come alive tonight

What an epic song Marcus and quite true that this art blew me away. The best part of the song is also the fact I always listen to the music when I read your posts. This time my youngest daughter started playing air guitar on her sphygmomanometer from her DocMcStuffins doctor playset. It was so amazing that I will post it to instagram for you to see lol. Thanks for the awesome lyrics. They went perfect.

Thanks Mark. The collection can be considered complete for all intensive purposes and am so thankful to have had a pretty clear collecting path to my end goals. Its almost like being a comic collector and getting all the issues for a run. Its been a fun ride. I always may partake in a few more and other art down the road, but pages from this run were an end goal That and this page was just icing on the cake. I also collected pieces from a few other runs that I haven't posted yet that were crucial to complete my collection. Hopefully I get them all posted in the next month or two.

Grootacular! This is quite the statement splash to anchor your GotG collection. You've put a lot of thought into the pieces you have been chasing and curating. So very happy that they have all been falling into place!

Thanks Jeff. That has been the most amazing part of the ride, which was finding a route not fully travelled and having been able to hit less road blocks along the way. There is still a piece or two out there which would be incredible to own, but most of those have been out of reach due to one reason or another. Who knows if they will ever be attainable.

Thank you. I loved this Mini and many more in the realm of Groot and Rocket Raccoon. I feel very lucky to have had a chance to collect what I have. That and I am very thankful to everyone that helped me along the way of collecting my Rocket and Groot collection/ GotG collection. Timothy Green II is awesome as a person as well as an artist. The artwork connected to me and you can feel the evolution of the characters by just looking at his work.

Thanks Paul. Your positive comments help make achieving collecting goals like this feel like a sucess. I hope I can keep it as a sucess for all as I love posting large scans for all to share as well. People that love the artwork, that love this story, and that love the character should also have a chance to enjoy viewing it as well. Thus, my love for posting on CAF. I can't begin to state how thrilled I get to see everyone elses pick ups and artwork that have meaning to me, or inspire new pathways in life.

Thanks. That is how I felt with this one. A piece that makes all the collecting worth it. It was also fun walking around at Disneyland recently and being able to share the artwork with other guests. Ya, I am that guy that strikes up random conversations with strangers lol.

Thanks George. I am thrilled beyond belief and glad to share the importance of modern artwork. Pieces like this I hope stand the test of time and continue to hold relevance for future generations quite like the earlier pieces have.
