Description

I am a big fan of Fuseli, and other artists from the romanticism period such as Theodor von Holst (who did the first Frankenstein book image in 1831), William Blake & John Martin.
If comics had a been around in the early 1800s then these artists would have been comic artists.

Title: ‘Huon and the Giant Angulaffer, liberating Angela’, drawn for (unused) ‘Oberon, A Poem from the German of Wieland’ translated by William Sotheby, second edition c.1805.

Certificate of Authenticity came with the art
Notes:
Purchased as ‘A Rampaging Giant’. I believe it to be ‘Huon and the Giant Angulaffer, liberating Angela’, drawn for (unused) ‘Oberon, A Poem from the German of Wieland’ translated by William Sotheby, second edition c.1805.

Huon de Bordeaux is wearing the red scarf noted in the painting “The Meeting of Sir Huon of Bordeaux and Scherasmin in the Libanon Cave”, and also the leg armour shown in this and other images from the story. His breastplate and helmet lie on the floor.
