Description

Sheldon Moldoff Detective Comics #35 "Batman with Gun" Splash Panel Re-Creation Original Art (c. 1980s-90s). Co-originator Bob Kane had envisioned a gun-toting vigilante in the broad early conception of the Batman series, and he pictured the character as such on occasion, before saner thinking prevailed and Batman became more a figure of strategic intelligence and manual-combat skills. The 1940 presentation of this image is formally ascribed to Kane and Moldoff (as background artist). Moldoff's modern-day reconstruction improves upon the composition by eliminating Kane's awkward mortise panel (from the lower-left area) and allowing the cape to billow ominously into the corner. Mixed media on Bristol board, affixed to a backing sheet. Image area, 13.5" x 14.25". Excellent condition.

One of my favorite Batman panels. The cowl is what makes this for me. Classic.

Great point about the cowl. It is just big and free flowing with great movement and vibrant colors.

This is a super fun piece. I have a Moldoff Flash page from '42. His art defined that era at DC.
