DescriptionThe second page I acquired from a fine fellow CAFer for a nice little sequence. It had been some time since I read the actual published book so I went back to revisit it as I was curious as to how the colorist had handled this work. Chris O'Halloran did a very nice job, and I've included a comparative image below. This particular page is quite dialogue heavy, and I wonder how much that played into Filipe's sparse design. If anyone has pages from this book that they are willing to sell/trade then please hit me up! Have a nice week! Social/Sharing |

In the Carnage of the morning in the CAF
I would sit and claim Andrade first and last
Alley ways were straight and narrow
Say your prayers because Hulk’s Immortal
And the rumor spread that I was webbing fast
Then I ran across a Spider who was sleeping by a tree
And I looked and frowned and the monster was green

These pages are dangerously close to making me think of becoming a Spidey collector (even if he's in some other character's title).

Unlike the previous page, on this one I can't even detect the presence of any stray pencil lines. Not since Gil Kane's early 80s work have I noticed an artist who just did all the drawing directly in ink without first pencilling. That takes a supreme level of confidence in your drawing ability and it appears Andrade has that in spades!

REALLY great sequence of pages, ML, and together they show off Filipe's mad skillz quite nicely. Page 21 is (as you say) gorgeous and fluid, embracing the viewer and comfortably guiding them through all the unfolding action; it's a page that works better with no color or dialogue / sound effects. Page 22 here is maybe even more impressive, as Filipe switches on a dime to "team mode", where it's all about providing a (lovely!) visual backdrop as the main storytelling chores now fall to the writer (and their dialogue) to move things forward. I love comics!! These two pages provide a portrait (and show the two modes or "extremes") of a well-rounded and fantastic comic book artist (and thank you for posting the published page for us to compare it to!). Brilliant! Great sequence! Heck of a pick up, ML! Congrats!
