Description

See the gallery front page for an explanation of this issue's significance. I am missing page 6, on which Supergirl identifies cultists on the campus of Stanhope College, leaves one tied up in the woods, and dons his cult robes to infiltrate a meeting of this secret society.

On page 7, the cultists chant, the wizard Zond appears in a billow of smoke, and a human sacrifice is about to happen. Faces throughout this issue show heavy correction. However, because this scene is mainly people wearing KKK hoods, there are few faces, and no Supergirl symbol, and thus nothing here needed much correction, just a little white paint on the sleeve in panel 2.

The caption in panel 1 is confusing; Supergirl is "in the first rank" of the hoods but is not the woman wielding the sword. Zond wears a prominent ring on his right index finger, but it never enters the story. I guess it just identifies him among his similarly dressed followers.

One thing that struck me about this story: The text is utterly superfluous. Everything said therein is already clearly shown in the accompanying image. I might expect this more at DC than Marvel, but it's strange in this case since the writer was also the artist and surely knew what the images would show. Perhaps it was force of habit, or DC's policy to make the plot clear for young readers, but this tale of midnight decapitations is not exactly for kiddies.
