Yoshitaka Amano is best known as the illustrator for Vampire Hunter D and Final Fantasy.

He agreed to illustrate Sandman Dream Hunters on the condition that it was an illustrated book and not a comic. His art was a perfect fit for Neil Gaiman's tale about a love affair between a Buddhist monk and a fox spirit. It was a twist on the classic asian fable of fox spirits and it has always nabbed a spot in my heart.

This scene shows how Binzuru Harada is beating the monk as he protects the fox spirit and it is fantastic irony that Binzuru himself had broken his own vow of chastity. This piece is nothing short of amazing in person.

I highly recommend checking out the story.

Wow! Gorgeous illustration! I love the lightness of the figures against the dark black background. The feathers convey a lovely sense of movement, seeming to drop slowly to the ground. The light colors on the monk and the spirit also help to give the illustration a sweet gentleness. Wonderful pick-up, congrats!
