Ever since getting my first Vargas piece a few years ago, I've been keeping an eye out for another opportunity. With his Kickstarter for his latest sketchbook, it finally happened.

Once again, I gave Gustaffo a list of characters to choose from (I've found that this always gives the best results, because the artist can pick something they're excited about). As soon as Gustaffo had my list, he said the creative juices were brewing!

Vargas' line is very loose and fluid. It's full of life and hard to contain. So his choice of Clayface is perfect.

There's such a wild, unhinged quality to this, with Basil Karlo's body spilling everywhere, almost bursting off the page, due to how Vargas has constructed the page and the frame struggling to contain Clayface. It's such a wonderful touch.

I love this and I'm already keeping an eye out for the next (and the next and the next) chance to get a killer Gustaffo Vargas piece!

It's so good with the dimensional depth having Clayface move so dynamically through the space, stretching from background to foreground with those fluid ink lines you cited.
