Description

"Substitute Corpse" by George Kashdan.

The story credits identify the artist Vic Catan under his pen name Vicatan Jr. His full name is Vicente Doria Catan Jr., according to Lambiek Comiclopedia (https://www.lambiek.net/artists/c/catan_vic.htm). He was among the Filipino artists who worked for DC in the 1970s and 1980s.

Captain Mike Filmore climbs the Italian Alps to a castle where "top Axis brass" are meeting to plan the Italian campaign. The mission is to take photos of their plans. In this page, Filmore is trying to leave the castle after after taking pictures of the campaign map but a Nazi guard sees him, so he throws his climbing tool into the guard's chest to get away.

The tension and drama tightents and gets ratched up when the stakes ar this high! Totally immerses the reader in the story.

Great little self-contained sequence here. The action in those top four panels is killer! Then the last two complete what began in the first, while also upping the stakes.
