Description

I saw Tyler post his wonderful series of Twin Peaks illustrations by Matt and it inspired me to finally add my Hellboy commission! This is a big piece, A2 size so about 17x23ish. Right from the start Matt was interested in doing a moodier piece and I was keen to include Hecate. Matt came up with multiple composition ideas and shared them along the way while asking about other characters I liked for some of his other ideas. It was a fun and friendly process. I really like how the final piece feels like you've just walked into a moment in the story and the whole gothic mood of it. This scan doesn't show the lovely texture of the piece in real life but Matt's black ink really is that black in person to get his stark contrasts.

There I was again tonight
Watching Tyler's gothic style
Great inspired, holy place
Walls of a monastery, shifting lines so gracefully
Vanish when I saw Hectate
All I can say is, it was enchanting in A2

Your lines whispered, "No regrets"
'Cross the room more silhouettes
Starts to arch its way to me
The Hellboy art of Matt Dunn starts
Mignola your ink and marks
Like Holy Host of Trinity

And it was enchanting in A2
All I can say is, I was enchanted to see you

Outstanding piece! I really like the exterior "establishing shot" at the top, the X-ray snake, and that gothic interior is amazing. Love the mug on HB! Such a great composition and wonderful textures

I love the contrast of the black and white on this. Dark and dangerous but beautiful. Huge congrats!

This is absolutely stunning!! I love the transition from the church shot at the top to the epic scene inside. His style works so well for Hellboy too. Congrats Reba!!
