DescriptionFrom “OUT OF THE VAULT” the death of Everett Thomas, aka SYNCHSYNCH (Everett Thomas) first appaeared in X-Men #36 (1994) right as the Phalanx saga was ramping up. He really came to notice as a founding member of GENERATION X. His character art generally always stood out since he was almost always surrounded by a rainbow aura (his mutant ability activated by other mutants around him and he could copy their abilities just by being near them, his aura in some manner syncing with theirs). This page features his exit from the Vault, three went in (Darwin, Wolverine/Laura and Synch) and only he makes it out after an epic journey spent inside (X-Men #18 and #19 2021). At this point he is depowered, Darwin has been captured inside and Laura sacrifices herself so that he has a chance to escape and download the centuries of data they collected from their journey inside. Once he exits the Vault barrier, his brain is able to syncs up with cerebro. This page features his plea for the Professor to make sure the journey wasn’t for nothing, the CHILDREN OF THE VAULT (post humans who gone though thousands of years of evolution) shoot and kill him, but not before he connects. The CHILDREN are at this point free from the Vault as well and this storyline picks back up another year or two later with Duggan and Cassara’s chapter for the rescue of Darwin (who was left behind, X-Men #15, #16, and #17 2023). It was both sad to see this version of this character who had lived for centuries die but also a sigh of relief that the torment they all went through wasn’t lost. Asrar’s visual storytelling, beat by beat, pulse by pulse then ending with the COTV standing over Synch’s mocking him as he dies and the world goes dark. I am a sucker for the CHILDREN OF THE VAULT storylines, they so far have felt really epic in both the visual storytelling art and the written dialogue. As a collector AND reader, this current arc of X-Men (just finished reading the HELLFIRE GALA 2023, which kicks off the FALL OF X, possibly the end to Hickman’s awesome era of the DAWN OF X) is absolutely heartbreaking. It’s beautiful art that goes along with some great stories, but sad that this Krakoan era may be ending. I am really looking forward to checking out the new CHILDREN OF THE VAULT to see what it may bring and posting this page (from DAWN OF X era) in honor of a hopefully great start to this next era. The future has no place for nudist colonies it seems. Man, the future blows.

Shocking death page! Asrar gives us the first person view from both sides and we see what Synch saw in his last moment before lights out.

This was one of my favorite recent X-Storylines and I'm really happy they continue to explore it with the re-appearance of Old Laura. Nice pickup!

The love story that spawned from this is epic. This will go down as a classic storyline for fans of X-Men, Synch, and X-23.

Synch's death near the end of the original Generation X series bothered me for many years, since next to Jubilee he was my favorite member of that team. I've been happy to see him become such a prominent character in recent years, even if it hasn't been an easy road for him (but I guess that goes with being an X-Man). Great art here!

The perspective changes as you move down, then the blank with the one line - "not you"; powerful stuff, man! Asrar does impress at times with his sequential skills. Congrats!

I read some of the wiki information about the COTV. Sounds interesting. Not caught up on my modern X-Men by any means, but looking to jump back in.
