DescriptionI was introduced to Darwyn Cooke’s work by my best friend, who happened to have a few friends in common with Darwyn and had met him a few times in social settings. He was an inspirational Artist to both of us and I had hopes to one day meet him myself. It’s tragic that both men have since passed away, and from very similar illnesses.My best friend also schooled me on why Superman isn’t a boring two-dimensional character who’s too strong to ever be engaging as a protagonist. :) The guy really knew his comics, loved Superman, and often gave me fresh perspectives on characters or Artists that I’d possibly too rapidly dismissed or overlooked. Picking up this Superman sketch seemed like a nice way to have both men front of mind while browsing through my collection. Acquired via auction. Social/Sharing |

Has a great power to the smile, the shading, and the dry brush curve of the cheek. Cooke went to the animation roots of Superman with the Fleischer Studios look.
