DescriptionSensational double page spread original artwork for Captain America Vol. 5 #21 (Marvel, 2006), page 16-17 by the talented, fan-favorite artist Steve Epting (pencils and ink-wash). Pulse-pounding dynamic battle-action spread for the story, "Twenty-First Century Blitz - Conclusion," wonderfully written by Ed Brubaker. This spread showcases the dramatic climax to the brutal melee between Captain America and the Winter Soldier, aka Bucky Barnes and the Red Skull's towering Sleeper Robot that crashes defeated and broken into London's Thames River. Cap and Bucky look on in wayworn triumph as Cap states, "We did it, Bucky...Just like the...old days..." But, Bucky has silently departed from his friend's side as Cap laments, "Damn it, Buck...you don't have to run...not anymore..." This being a very heartfelt and nostalgic recollection of their famous partnership back in the days of World War II, all the while being a sad reflection upon their newfound, yet turbulent friendship. This superb spread represents the one and only large splash panels in this classic issue, as well as the final shot of the Winter Soldier in costume. And, even more importantly, this was the first time in over half a century that Captain America and Bucky Barnes fought side-by-side.Original artwork from this classic run is highly sought after and very difficult to come by since many of the ideas and plots published herein were adapted by Marvel Comics into the Captain America feature films.
