Description

In the first two years of Terry and the Pirates, Normandie Drake appeared only in the daily strips and the Dragon Lady appeared only in the Sunday. That changed in 1936 when the Dragon Lady was featured in the daily strip. This is the third daily to feature her in the daily stories from September 1936.

The brush work is pretty for the small faces and hairstyles in these medium shots that allow room for word balloons and establishing setting. The use of blue is well considered to bring even further shading and dimension.

The storytelling and staging in each of these TatP are wonderful. There's a formal vibe to the earlier strips, like watching an engaging play

Spectacular debut of the DL in the dailies. I had one from this sequence years ago and still lament parting with it. Really lovely.
