Description

This is a relatively simple doodle/remarque but for me its a grail piece.

I intended for quite some time to attend NYCC of this year, especially when I found out Guarnido would be present. His work on Blacksad is some of my favorite comic art of ALL time, and his career is an inspiration for me, so given he lives somewhere around a million miles away from me I knew this would be a rare chance.

Unfortunately life had other plans and despite rigorous efforts it simply was not feasible to make it this year. Disappointed I was prepared to simply begin sending up prayers he would return next year but he posted on his social media that he was planning a Whatnot stream. I attended just for the chance to see the man at work but turns out he was doing a two sketches.... this was my chance.

Then I got outbid. Twice. I was beginning to think the universe simply didn't want me having this and was going to resign myself to screaming into the heavens when he unexpectedly agreed to do one more in his newly released sketchbook. This time, I won and, and like a wizard he effortlessly conjured this up on the page in mere seconds. You can actually check out the Whatnot past stream on Essential Sequential's channel and watch him make this. You could've blindfolded him and he still can draw these characters with ease, its amazing.

But I dont mind its simplicity, or the brevity of its creation one bit. Owning even a small piece of his work, and of my favorite character from the series, is something I did not see happening this year but patience and determination paid off. This will be long and highly treasured.

This is a cool piece that you'd normally only be able to obtain at a rare convention appearance. And Guarnido would most likely have personalized. So it seems a bit more rare without it.

I actually usually don't prefer personalization, and was also semi AFK when they asked on the stream so he just signed it instead. Win win!
