DescriptionHera plots in the third volume of Historia, the definitive history of the Amazons. No easy feat to make a compelling Wonder Woman-adjacent book without, well, Wonder Woman; big ups to Kelly Sue DeConnick for not only accomplishing that, but also winning an Eisner for it. A trio of incredible artists handles each of the three volumes: Phil Jimenez, Gene Ha, and Nicola Scott. With the majority of the work from this evergreen series being digital, it was cool to see finished traditional pages with Nicola's amazing ink washes. Her process involves laying out pencils in reverse on the back side of the page and then flipping over to finish the art cleanly. The second image is of the reverse, with the flipped layouts and perspective lines. How that brain function works is a mystery to me...These are pretty large format, with each individual page clocking in at around 16x20 inches. This particular one has gold paint fancying up Hera's gown. I've liked Nicola Scott's work since Wonder Woman and thought she really leveled it up for Black Magick, which is a criminally underrated series. So seeing her on this book was really great and I am really pleased to be able to add this art to my collection! Social/Sharing |

I agree about Black Magick. The bird here is particularly well rendered.
