DescriptionConstantine rummages through a literal bag of tricks on this splash, which served as the title page for this story, "The Cottage", written by Peter Milligan in the longest running writing tenure on the title. Bisley had been tapped to provide series covers from issue #256 onwards to the final issue, #300. Giuseppe Camuncoli typically handled the interior art, but Bisley would occasionally step in to bring his instantly recognizable style to an issue here and there. This was the first such fill-in issue he did on this title. His art on this book is fairly unique in that he really went detailed with his pencils, utilizing measured inking but really finding a lot of values in the grayscale alone. I got Bisley to sign this at a convention and he reminisced that when he turned in the art, he was told that he was paid for pencils *and inks*, to which he replied "have you seen the pages I've given you?" He did not elaborate on whether he suffered a rate cut or was able to negotiate his way out of it. Social/Sharing |

Such a delicate touch on this that you would't have known it was Bisley at first. This shows his strengh of the fundamentals that he can work into any style.

For modern(ish) Bisley that is beautiful. A superb Constantine page to own. Glad to see a small restrained signature in the bottom corner from the Biz, his signatures can be quite wild.

At a point in the early 90s I was buying complete issues of Lobo's Back with Gaston (Meltdown) and Glenn (Danzig), so I've seen a lot of his work up close. This is very dofferent and I think I prefer it. Killer composition and detail. This room looks lived in.
