DescriptionSince I’ve gotten emails from CAF of stats being advertised as original art, I decided to make one for myself. Here’s a famous one I saw on Dueling Dealers last night. It’s a John Byrne with the Fantastic Four shirt design. Even the other dealer on the show says they sell for a lot on Hertiage.Social/Sharing |

Consign it to Heritage, then. You just printed your way to a million dollars!

Spectacular stat acquisition! If you get more, you should do a CAF Live to spread the word on how they're up next.

It's a mechanical recreation of the stat that is a mechanical recreation of the original art.

Look, how can I be sure this is really a stat of a stat of the original if you didn't have a CGC witness you doing it. It's not even slabbed

You would want to be slabbed...sorry, slapped on the head with concussive force to start down this nightmarish road of what is worth and what is worthless. I spent 450 euro recently to get a small piece of cardboard that was given away as a free gift in a 1977 comic. I am sure Marcus' stat cost considerably less to produce. Just have to hold onto it and maybe a fellow maniac down the road might stump up considerable cash to get it in their collection. A provenance letter and signed certification of autenticity might help. People really love those worthless pieces of paper. I mean, this site is all about pieces of paper that few people care about. lol.

You're the best Marcus, this is so hilarious!! Great journalism in outing these confusing pieces.

Of course there are people who collect original stats (people collect everything), but I'm inclined to believe that they're not willing to pay them as they were original art 😅

I'm not saying they are worthless, but putting them into the second round of a show of comic art sales does no service to any new collector who will get confused without as much knowledge of the hobby. It throws all the rest of the rounds' offerings into question. Even Heritage has the decency to put it in the back of the catalogue. Bill has to bend to Anthony, but it doesn't mean we should go along with the show when they have a low opinion of the audience by bringing out offerings of photostats, prints, and postage.

Yeah that's true, it's definitely hard to navigate especially being new to the hobby! It's a weird balance of the buyer doing their due diligence obviously with any big purchase and the dealers not being complete shitheads. But when they make it in the format where it's rush to claim people may make a rash decision when they think they see something that it really isn't. And of course you didn't say they were worthless.... but I definitely did! lol
