DescriptionIn 2000, Dan Fraga created fantasy series The Gear Station, which ran for five issues from Image Comics. He contemplated another series starring Darwin Lightwing, its half-faerie protagonist. To that end, he and Larry Stucker produced four full-page images showing the same three characters scrunched uncomfortably onto a single bed after a party. Three of the images showed them respectively in the Old West, the fantasy setting of The Gear Station, and most improbably as employees of a greasy spoon diner. In each case, the elements of the bedroom were transformed into similarly shaped items in the new setting. A bedside table becomes a cactus or a tumbleweed, and so on. The painting above the bed in the modern party scene homages a painting by Fraga's grandfather, E.J. Ryan. I picked up these two images (modern and Old West) from Fraga at a convention where he and Stucker sat at adjoining tables; it seemed the most appropriate purchase. The other two images (the diner and the fantasy one) were already sold years ago to different buyers, separating them from the remaining two. If anyone sees the other two, let me know. The diner image surfaced at Heritage Auction in 2018; I can find no trace online of the fantasy image. Whoever reunites all four pieces will gain infinite power, or so I am told. Social/Sharing |

Vintage Fragaboom! Which one did he work on first? He went to town after getting the original layout done and put a lot more time designing all the changes on each successive theme.
