DescriptionThis is the first of six connecting covers masterfully drawn by Chris Brunner and colored by Rico Renzi. I love when these two team up because the result tends to be something magnificent. This cover was drawn in 2022 and published April 26th, 2023. One of my favorite things about Chris' art is he tends to do some wonderful preliminary work, which came with this cover. I'll get those scanned ASAP. DEEP CUTS series tells musical stories across several decades with a different interior artist on each issue. This issue starts in New Orleans, 1917. "Inspired by real events, DEEP CUTS tells stories of the interconnected struggle, joy and hope in jazz as well as the (sometimes) stray connections that ultimately inspire each new generation." - Image Comics Social/Sharing |

This is fabulous! But George, the question is: Are you getting the other five covers? I guess we shall see!

Hahaha... not trumpet, but I actually tried to learn trombone for a couple months during middle school. It was an epic fail and I luckily found the guitar.

Very excited to read that series (for which my point of entry was those Brunner covers).

I'm not familiar with the series but this is such a wonderfully composed image!. I also love that Bruner puts the exact date and TIME he finished the cover!

The birth of jazz at the epicenter of it all in New Orleans. Full of Boubon Street magic and mystery combining the driving rhythms of African origins and the spirituals hymns! You can tell there's that same kind of creativity by Brunner when adapting that history into the artwork.

Love this, man. Perfect marriage of comics, art, and music! Nice tonal work, and those background swirls make you feel like the sweet jazz notes coming from that trumpet are drawing you in! Congrats on this and the batch over covers overall from the run!

As a trumpet player myself, this is my favorite of the three Deep Cuts covers you have posted. But they are all really terrific!
