DescriptionTop of the list of this October's FACTS Edition for me was Jim Mahfood. I'm a big fan of his mixed media & mixed disciplines approach to art - from music to painting to graffiti and all in between.A few months before the show, I reached out to Jim, but no commissions could be set up so close to NYCC. He would be doing some head sketches at the show, though, which gave me some hope. Fast forward to the show, where I was the very first in line on the first day. We chatted about his work, the many books I had brought for him, his trip, things to see & do in Belgium, and a Mary Jane sketch. I gave him some info on what I had mind & would swing by later that day to pick it up. However, I saw that he was working on a full figure sketch. I wanted that too! He mentioned that it was asked for, so he did something custom. As (bad) luck would have it, my sketch was finished already. I talked to Jim very openly & he offered to redo the piece (for the extra full figure fee). Still, I was debating not doing that, as the original piece was already pretty perfect, but made the jump. The end result is this "little black dress Mary Jane". It's basically a more elaborate version of the head sketch, but "with legs" and definitely more details. Love the sexy Mahfood pose, the beautiful face & the little Spidey easter eggs. It's the perfect cross-over between Mahfood & Spidey! Size is 9x12, done in pencils & inks. Social/Sharing |
