Description“Reaching Out to Yesterday: A Story of Memory and Family“There is something I always find so enjoyable with the X interpersonal drama, especially panels of Scott and Alex arguing. The brotherly love is evident, but their deep history filled with jealousy and torment often takes precedence. Epting and Milgrom’s combo art stylings for a Mackie story work so beautifully in this era for X-Factor. At this point in the X-Factor game, Alex Summers (Havok) was the leader of the team, he took the death of Multiple-Man (Jamie Madrox, technically one of his dupes) pretty hard (issue #100; see my page 40). He then quit the team in issue #101 (see my page 29) feeling fairly inadequate to lead a team. Scott Summers (Cyclops), one of the original 5 X-Men, that ultimately was a founding member to X-Factor as well, at this point is the leader of the X-Men Blue team. Two leaders at a table together, putting away their costumes and being two brothers at odds. The art comes to life with the scene of a lively bar that you can hear the low music, loud chatter and the smack of pool sticks to cue ball; smell the thick air filled with cigarettes, sweat and humidity; see the atmosphere of a local pub that might not be so keen on having loud out-of-towners arguing (especially two mutants). Since I come from a small town in Northern CA, I recognize this scene fairly well and have 3 older brothers that I love greatly, but also wonder if I wasn’t related to some of them if I would have any relationship with them at all. But because we are family we have to work through our discussions, not seeing eye to eye often, with loud matches of conversing (aka arguing). When I get pages like this, it really brings it home to why I love the X drama (for whatever these two X-people were fighting about), when I can fill in the gaps, hear, see, even smell this scene with a small-town environment that I am familiar with; as it comes to full life. With Havok and Cyclops, I can distinctly hear their voices without even reading or seeing any words. Social/Sharing |

honestly not even the weirdest thing either of them has been up to before
This page is gorgeous, by the way. The whole thing is great but the second panel packs so much into it. The atmosphere on this page is fantastic and I'm always here for some Summers family drama. Really great piece.

This art style is ahead of its time in 1995. It would become a lot more popular down the line when the storytelling was put in the frontburner once more and more emotional depth came into fashion again. The shading wasn't really a known Milgrom thing, but it looks great with the ambiance created here.

I hear ya on X interdimensional stories...they're usually pretty fun. Love the scene setting in the secon panel here. Wonder what's playing on the juke box :) Congrats, man!

Classic bar scene, and the inking is perfect in setting the mood. Great page!
