DescriptionThis is the final page in the Hulk origin triptych, and for me represents the transition from the old Hulk to the modern Freudian model. The first two pages of the origin outline the struggles of Bruce Banner and the Hulk respectively, while on this page the three lava men represent the tripartite Freudian mind. The id is portrayed by the witch doctor, the ego by Molto, and the superego by the king. The struggle between the three shows the inner workings of the Bruce Banner/Hulk mind. When the story is read from this perspective it adds a whole new layer of complexity that helps to bring a satisfying end to the Avengers Hulk cluster (Avengers #1-#5) Social/Sharing |

A classic work of Marvel history! Kirby engrandizes the page and story by bringing in the imagination that is biblically epic in scale.

How have I missed this triptych? After all, the number three is mystically-powered. Congratulations!
