DescriptionPicture it: San Diego Comicon, 1997 or 1998. I was at the height of my Charest obsession. New art from Travis would sometimes cause me to hyperventilate. No joke. It's kind of embarrassing actually... why am I telling you this?ANYWAY. This was my first time at a big US con and I hadn't even broken in yet*, so I was utterly unprepared for the A list talent EVERYWHERE just sitting at tables, approachable and happy to chat. I knew I had to get a Travis drawing! It meant stalking the Wildstorm booth for a day-and-a-half until I spotted him, but he was obliging and kindly drew me this. His take on Spartan exemplified the clean-cut noble hero guy ideal, I had to see him draw Cyke. *Fun fact--this was the convention where I got my first comics job, from Caliber Press. It was the second coolest thing that happened that year at San Diego Con. Social/Sharing |
