Description

HUGE pen and ink piece by the master of the form, Orson Lowell. Lowell was a mainstay of the golden age of illustration, and in his day was as well known as Gibson, Booth, and Coll. Published in the March 18, 1915 edition of life (p. 471), in a story called “A Philosopher.” A whopping 26” x 22”. Purchased from the Kelly Collection of American Illustration Art.

Fabulous work from that era when illustration was the photography of the day telling a whole story in a single image. All the prestigious magazines of the day sought out Lowell as they were a major contributor to shaping culture across America and also the world.
