DescriptionSee this gallery's main page for discussion of this issue's significance. On the previous page, Morgana the witch has robbed the evil wizard Zond of his powers. On this page, Supergirl chases him down and, in a surprisingly violent montage, takes revenge for the beating he gave her back on page 8. Even after he surrenders, she punches this powerless human in the face one more time. Surely the angriest depiction of Kara Zor-El up to this point in her history, and perhaps in all of pre-Crisis continuity. This panel is also the clear that Supergirl's new costume was supposed to be sleeveless, as it was also depicted on the cover. However, the published pages made her arms blue. Meanwhile, the witch Morgana, who was so obnoxious in her only other appearance (Wonder Woman #186), proves downright helpful this time, providing blissful amnesia to a traumatized and comatose co-ed as the story zooms to a rapid denouement. Indeed, Diana’s last word balloon ends with dashes, as if she had more to say on the next page. “The End” was a late editorial insertion, as evidenced by the blue pencil annotation and the white out underlying that final caption. So the ending was apparently trimmed for space. Social/Sharing |

That Sekowsky wrote the story may account for the deviation from Supergirl's (and Morgana's) usual demeanor, but I really liked his artwork on these Supergirl stories, as well as the new costume - sleeves or not. A truly great page.

Sekowsky wrote Morgana's other appearance as well. I think he just needed her to be helpful in this story, so she was. Sekowsky definitely put his own mark on "What is Supergirl like?" in this story and others that followed for the next couple of years.
