DescriptionThis one started with The Predator. As I was scrolling through Instagram one night, I came across a phenomenal sequential piece of Arnold facing down the galaxy’s most dangerous hunter. Impressed by what I saw, I took a shot and asked Wilfredo if he’d be willing to draw the Cap scene of his choice. He replied back that he wasn’t taking commissions, but it sounded like fun and he’d be happy to take on the challenge. The very next day, I got a message saying he decided to go with this scene from First Avenger. I loved the idea. But, before I could even tell him that, an image popped up of the completed piece! To say this was the fastest commission experience I’ve ever had would be a massive understatement, and I am in complete awe he turned around such a beautifully conceived and rendered piece in barely a day. ASK THE ARTIST: Why this scene? I asked Wilfredo and he said “Time works differently in comics and movies. So, I think the best way to approach a page like this is to not necessarily try and translate a ‘scene’, but rather to try and capture a ‘moment’. I love the way the films handle the action with Cap. The way he moves and carries himself, it all worked so well. But most of my favorite scenes involve his interactions with Peggy. The moment just before Steve goes into the ice is heartbreaking to me, so to try and get that emotion across was an interesting challenge.” I’d say Wilfredo more than lived up to the challenge, wouldn’t you? I love everything about his choices, especially leaving the last panel borderless. What a fitting way to add emotion to the finality of the act while also hinting that the story isn’t over. On top of that, the opening and closing panels sport whiteout texturing to add to the snowy feeling of the scene taking place outside the plane, as well as tones on Peggy’s photo in the compass. Oh, and it’s a little oversized at 12”x18” to boot! I’m eternally grateful to Wilfredo for this one. Social/Sharing |

It's so romantic. Their dance would have to wait, but his love will still be there.
