Description

Wonderful original cover for The Best of Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge #1 (1964), by Tony Strobl. Unfortunately most of Tony Strobl’s artwork has been destroyed, with only about 20 surviving original covers from 1957-1972, this arguably being the most iconic one (at least to me).

This cover has a very special meaning to me, as it illustrates my favorite Carl Barks story “The Old Castle’s Secret” (1948) and as all original Barks art from that story is thought to have been destroyed, this is likely the closest I will ever come to owning any original art from it.
It’s also significant to all German Disney comic fans, as it was used on the cover of the very first “Tollste Geschichten von Donald Duck” (1965), a comic series that is still running successfully today.

Only a few weeks back this beauty was a part of my collection. :-) It is only fair that it now resides in your wonderful collection, Monty. It was a pleasure trading with you once again and I was proud to let this piece go to a good fellow collector and friend. Congrats Monty - it`s such a great cover by Tony Strobl. And as you stated - maybe even the best one out there.
