DescriptionCharlton also used this page for the cover. The cover's lower left corner is a panel from page seven.I have almost the complete story except for a panoramic battle scene cut from the penultimate page. The writer of this Charlton story, "His Mother's Son," is unknown, according to the Grand Comics Database. We do know the artist, Gustavo Trigo from Argentina. He did romance and war stories for Charlton with cover dates between 1967 and 1973. He was in Italy by 1979 to escape the military junta climate in his home country. The rest of his career was in Italian comics. I want to thank Miki Annamanthadoo for the following links about Trigo: Credits in the Grand Comics Database: https://www.comics.org/creator/5181/sequences/?sort=publisher Description of his career, albeit in Spanish: https://www.tebeosfera.com/autores/trigo_gustavo_ramon.html Page summary: This Korean War story finds a freezing squad of the Marine First Division under attack by Chinese soldiers near the Chosin Reservoir. One of the soldiers dies giving the alarm. Pfc. "Mousie" Carey hangs back, cursing his father, a Marine Corps general, for getting him into the war. He recalls his father, upon returning from World War II, telling him he was expected to also join the Marines. War comics often used flashbacks to show the protagonist's life before the war and the character flaw that he had to overcome during combat. Social/Sharing |

A great piece! All the training gets thrown out the door and everything that shaped you to be the person you are is told to others by the actions or inaction you take in war. We started getting more of these stories of conscience and self doubt as real life war was playing out overseas and the target audience was being sent off to war.

Looks like this lyric pertains:
I come from down in the valley
Where, mister, when you're young
They bring you up to do
Like your daddy done
Always cool to read the story from the art so we need to find you that missing page!

Thanks Mark. Appropriate lyrics! Finding the missing art would be satisfying.
