Description

Charlton page 2 of "His Mother's Son" by an unknown writer.

The flashback sequence continues. His mother thinks he's more like her side of the family and isn't "rugged" enough for the military. His father, however, says the Marine Corp will whip him into shape. He enlists when the Korean War breaks out. His drill instructors don't think he's tough like his father but also doesn't give up. Arriving in Korea in November 1950, he wonders why they are fighting over the ramshackle country.

This set up page is a lot like Nam #1 in the 80's. Innocent and well adjusted young man gets thrown into the cauldron of international conflicts that he may not even believe in. Along with him, we are suddenly thrust into the realities of war!
