Description

A proud God of Thunder, raining down some lightning - by Immortal Thor star Martin Coccolo!

Mid 2023, I was lucky enough to meet Marvel's newest class of Young Guns (or now called Stormbreakers). Among them was Martin Coccolo, known for his run on "The Immortal Thor" with writer Al Ewing.

As of the first issue, I fell in love with Martin's work. When I heard he would be at Dutch Comic Con, I booked a ticket and I immediately went to his table to set up a commission. Unfortunately, he wasn't sketching at his table.

Not a big issue, though, as he offered to exceptionally do something at home. We stayed in touch over the last year and lo and behold, this beauty arrived last week.

For the budget we discussed, I wasn't expecting this fully rendered full figure with background. I love the shading on Thor's costume, the flowing cape and the lightning breaking up the black background. Size is 11x14; this was done in pencils, inks & ink wash.

I like how he uses the paper texture to his advantage! The transition at the knee from black to wash has a unique look.

Yup! I also adore his use of negative space! Martin's extremely talented - his run on Wolverine is launching soon!
