DescriptionThere is a story with this one:So I bought this one from a Wizard World Con in Richmond, VA back in 2014. I did not plan to buy this, it kind of happened by accident. The con it self was a dud, most wizard world cons were generally pretty lackluster. Neal Adams might have been one the one highlight of the creators in attendance. My friend and I were walking around his table, mostly looking at prints. I looked up from the table with all the prints to the back wall of his booth where he had originals. Talking with my friend I said "Geez none of those have prices. I wonder how much something like that one would cost?" What I didn't realize is that I had walked close enough to Neal that he could hear from where he was signing someone's books. Neal: "Well, How much you got?" Me: "What?" Neal: "How much do you have? We are going to haggle." Me: "..." Neal: "Ordinarily this Piece would be $$$" Me: "...I only have $" Neal: "Well, then it going to cost you $" I look to my friend and he has backed up across the aisle is half laughing at me. I falter for a minute thinking this would completely clean me out. I double count my money and come to the conclusion that I wouldn't even be able to afford lunch if I made the purchase. I half walk away from his table, saying I would think about if he would just give me a minute. Spoke to my friend, trying to get reassurance this was a good idea... though I already knew I going to go back and purchase it. I get in line to get up to Neal. At this point his handler (wife? daughter? I can't remember.) who had been absent in our original conversation had returned. I get back to him and indicate that if he was still willing to sell it for $, that I would buy it. His handler was not pleased that he was selling it to me for this price, but I ended up with it anyway. My best memory from that con and still one my favorite con stories. Social/Sharing |

Great story and wise choice. Neal's birthday is next Saturday and any story of him reminds us of the man and how he did things his way.
