Description

I was ten years old when I first saw this amazing double-page spread in the centerfold of ADVENTURES OF THE FLY # 7. Guest-starring with the title character was The Black Hood, making his very first Silver Age appearance. The original art was penciled and inked by John Giunta.

In my humble opinion, this is one of the finest pieces of art ever to appear in comics, equal to the very best efforts of Kirby, Kane, Ditko, Heck, Adams, Kubert, Infantino, Byrne, Perez, and all the other greats.

Years ago, I stumbled across a high resolution scan of the original art which I copied and saved. Recently I sent the scan to a young man in Florida named Brian Czompi. He does incredibly faithful recreations, and I commissioned him to create the art you see here. He used the original scan to generate "greylines" on two 13" x 19" art boards, then painstakingly did the inks and letters. The finished work is nearly identical in size to the original. Brian did a masterful job, and I am excited to have this recreation in my collection and to share it with fellow CAF members.
