Very operatic image of The First Knight with the devilish appearance and the electrical storms behind him! It also says a lot about these people of the time who would have saw Batman as a mythical monster to be shot first, ask questions later. The swampy environment is just right for these things to ring true in this page.

Wow - a fantastic showcase of -so- many of the things Mike was doing so well on this series! Some great establishing shots to set the scene (as well as some beautiful portraiture to set the reader's POV with the girl) and then the pure, almost operatic drama of a monster rising from the depths. In a world that didn't yet know about Batman, this would be a pretty terrifying moment, and Mike illustrates it perfectly, relying on those fantastic atmospheric swirls of his (along with razor cuts and white paint) to really punch the story beat. The folds of his cape in panel 6, the way that Batman's plea for mercy is framed in panel 7, his retreat in panel 8 (executed in wash, giving a great sense of depth and layers to the panel) are awesome moments of graphic storytelling. Congrats on grabbing such a cool example from this beautiful series!

So great to see you posted this piece in your gallery, it's magnificent! There's so much to say about how wonderful of an example of the story this is, but both Marcus and Jason have already said everything I'm thinking! Fantastic!
