DescriptionI have a fondness for the Batman Year 2 storyline and it was one of the few trade paperbacks that I had as a kid. I worn the pages down on the trade from ll of the constant thumbing through it. The story was not a masterpiece like Year 1 but the Reaper had such a cool design (well to a kid anyway) so that made up for it. It took me by surprise when I figured out that the artist that I loved seeing on Amazing Spider-Man was the same guy who drew part of the series.You can clearly see that Todd was in the early aspects of his style then (I believe this is one of the issues that Alfredo inked over Todd's pencils and not one of the ones that he inked himself) but his panels had that fluidity and movement that came more and more apparent on his Spidey work later on. Look at that first panel with Bats leaping away from Reaper's swipe (with that famous cape movement!) and then of course the second to last panel with the Reaper kill. fantastic page - and you dont see alot of them out there - certainly you can also see the early era before he becomes more styleized but you can see him headed there on this one for sure

McFarlane and Alcala is a really cool combination!!! great page from a memorable period for McFarlane on DC work - the personal connection you have to the story makes it even better, congrats!

Incredible battle page! The McCapes are there and so are Todd's great panel layouts that are ahead of the times. Alcala adopted a lot of the horror elements and made The Reaper such a formidable foe for Batman!

Ha! I thought I was the only one with a fondness for Year 2. Like you, a lot of that probably comes from having had the trade, and I was absolutely captivated by Todd's work on the capes in this series. That first panel is a banger for sure, but the whole page is full of memorable moments. Really fantstic - ink me jelly. Congrats!
